According to its official materials, the Sultanate was formally restored by the House of Simmons Bey in 2020 and operates through religious leadership, councils, and community institutions.

The Sultanate of Amexem states that Moorish Americans are descendants of ancient Moabite and Moorish peoples connected to the original inhabitants of the Americas. Its official writings describe the Americas as territories historically inhabited by Asiatic and Moorish peoples long before European colonization. The organization presents this belief as part of a broader interpretation of Moorish identity and history tied to spiritual ancestry, Indigenous identity, and ancient civilizations.  

The organization also emphasizes the concept of self-governance. According to its official statements, the Sultanate views itself as a “nation within a nation,” operating under its own internal structures, councils, ministries, and constitutional framework. Its governance model combines religious authority, communal administration, and economic organization under what it describes as divine law and Moorish sovereignty.
